Collaboration On Web Projects With Client Partners

At O8, we put a premium value on the collaborative process because we understand that it is the keystone to the success of all projects. Success can mean many things, including the final delivered product, but, just as important, is the process and how well it is managed.

Here are a few fundamentals we put in place when collaborating.

Collaboration Fundamentals

Agree on the goal. All parties need to be clear about what we are trying to achieve. The goalposts may move as the project evolves, but a clear vision at the planning and discovery phase means that efforts are channeled more efficiently from the outset. Open discussion and active listening are vital, as is the participation of key decision-makers at an early stage. Be sure to include all stakeholders at this juncture, including those who will be impacted by the project, so they, too, have a voice.

Take responsibility and assign ownership. As a client partner, you should be clear about what your obligations are. Although you are procuring an expert team, without your attention and involvement, the project can slow down or drift. Break down responsibilities for your organization so they are manageable and assign named individuals to tasks/roles, and make the project part of their regular workflow.

Be clear about the channels/methods of communication. It is important to have consistent and effective communication channels and tools in place. It should be clear to all parties in the project who the key contact people are and the best ways to connect with them. If you are unfamiliar or uncomfortable with the tools being used, let us know, and we can find a good solution. Have individual check-ins with your team members so that you are up-to-date with what they are doing.

We cultivate a supportive environment, and, as well as the expected regular meetings, we have an open communication policy, which means that if in doubt, just call, email, ping us in the chat room… and you can expect us to be flexible, responsive, and willing to help.

Embrace the spirit of collaboration. Collaboration to us means taking a proactive approach, and we always strive to go the extra mile. The spirit of collaboration is a very empowering concept because it allows us to work together for the common goal, acknowledge our contribution, and achieve a better than expected result. In the end, we measure our success by your success.

Conduct ongoing evaluation. Regular status updates throughout the project are a good way to review the process and re-adjust as required. Consider what is working well and what could be improved. This is our opportunity to reassess and recommit to the process. When the project is complete make sure you are comfortable with the handoff. We will help you as much as you need and always leave the door open for further collaboration or support.

Finally, we are always looking to improve, do things better, and deliver awesome web design and development projects in partnership with our clients. We constantly learn from you and continue to invite feedback and suggestions.
